Pieter vander Aa was a publisher, editor and bookseller working in Leiden. As well as maps of some counties he produced a number of small town plans based on the much earlier plans by Braun and Hogenberg and John Speed with corrections and additions. The plan of Edinburgh is copied from the plan of Gordon of Rothiemay, engraved by Andrew Johnston between 1708 and 1714. They vary in size with many being about 5 x 5 inches. They appear in
