THOMAS KITCHIN

WHOSE NAME IS LINKED TO EMANUAL BOWEN

Thomas Kitchin was born in 1719 in St. Olave Parish in Southwark. and at the age of 13 became apprenticed to the English mapmaker and publisher Emanuel Bowen. At the age of 20 in 1732 he married Sarah Bowen, daughter of Emanuel. Thomas Kitchin and Emanuel Bowen continued to work together until about 1741 when Thomas to go it alone, working at 'The Star, Holborn Hill'. Although he published books on many subjects the ones of interest to the county and road map collectors are
