William Pinnock was born in Hampshire being a bookseller in Alton, Hampshire before moving to Newbury in Berkshire. He was a Historian, topographer and schoolmaster. He later moved to London in 1817 to become a master printer. He married the sister of Samuel Maunder who became his partner.
Together they founded the company Pinnock & Co. which flourished from c.1817 - 1822. Their premises were at 267 Strand, London.
After 1822 it appers that William Pinnotck carried on working alone.
His series of English county maps are so easy to recognise being from woodblocks cut to be showing white on black. They appeared in The Guide to Knowledge with engraved maps by Joshua Archer and Sidney Hall first appeared in 1833-34. There were many editions going up to about 1863.
